Social Security to go completely electronic

March 22nd, 2012 · No Comments

Effective March 1, 2013, all benefits from the Social Security Administration will be issued electronically. The administration began issuing benefits electronically to new Social Security Disability Insurance recipients last year, but starting next year all recipients will stop receiving paper checks.

If you or a loved one is currently receiving paper checks from Social Security, they will need to plan accordingly to make the transition. Benefits can be acquired through direct deposit or deposit onto a payment card. Recipients can switch over to electronic payment by visiting their local bank or credit union.

The federal government expects to save $1 billion over the next decade with the switch away from paper checks.

If you or a loved one is in need of legal support in order to file for Social Security disability benefits or to address a problem with your claim, contact the Social Security disability lawyers of the Charles D. Hankey Law Office at 317-634-8565.

Bobby Jenks, victim of medical mistake

February 23rd, 2012 · No Comments

The 30 year-old pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, Bobby Jenks, became the victim of a serious medical mistake last December after doctors made a life-threatening error during surgery.

Jenks underwent surgery in Boston to remove two bone spurs on his spine. A few days after the surgery, he noticed fluid leaking out of the incision. Doctors immediately performed emergency surgery on his spine after discovering it was spinal fluid coming out of his incision.

In his first operation, doctors successful removed two bone spurs and started on the third but did not finish. The third bone spur was serrated, which allowed for spinal fluid to leak out. Jenks suffered from an infection that could have proven fatal if it spread.
