Pedestrian hit by a police car in Fort Wayne

A man that was hit by a police car in a pedestrian accident on Friday has succumbed to his injuries, officials announced.

The accident occurred when a police officer was responding to a non-emergency call on North Clinton Street and Lima Road when he struck a 34-year-old man who was in the roadway. The police cruiser had neither lights not sirens activated when the accident occurred and it is unclear whether the man was crossing the road or was standing in the middle of it.

The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead this morning. The officer was given an alcohol-breath test and blood test, the alcohol test came back negative and they are waiting on results from the blood test. Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward with any information as they continue their investigation into the accident.

Motorcyclist seriously injured in accident

A man was seriously injured after a motorcycle accident in Fort Wayne last week.

The accident occurred around 10:45 a.m. when the man was heading southbound on I-69 at the 101 mile marker when he lost control of his motorcycle for unknown reasons and the vehicle left the roadway.

The man was rushed to Lutheran Hospital after suffering a head injury in the accident. This accident occurred the day after the Indiana Patriot Guard spoke on the news about motorcycle safety.

Indiana railroad getting attention for extra needed safety measures

After the seventh fatal train accident in three years at a northwest Indiana railroad station is causing South Shore Line to take an extra look at what can make this railroad crossing a safer area.

In the beginning of August, two people were killed in train and car collision when a South Shore train collided with a car. A spokesperson from the company is working with engineers to possibly design a safer railroad crossing which would include median that would prevent drivers from going under the railroad crossing arms. Officials say that the median will reduce accidents by 80 percent.

Mixed chocolate nuts recalled because of possible allergic reaction

The South Bend Chocolate Company in South Bend, Indiana has announced the recall of 174 bags of mixed nuts and chocolate because people that have a nut allergy may have a serious allergic reaction.

Bountiful Blend, the name of the recalled product, has been sold over the internet and mail orders. The bags with a date of or after March 18 are included in this recall and should not be eaten.

The recall began when cashews, Brazil nuts, pecans and almonds were found in the bags and not listed on the product’s label. Consumers can return the product to the place they bought it from for a full discount.

Boating safety in Indiana

All boats in Indiana are required to follow a few rules in order to ensure boating safety while on the lake. All boats must have a registration and validation sticker when being used on public waterways.

Another rule that is used to protect passengers on a boat is that there must be a Personal Flotation Device on board for each person on the boat. Also, everyone 12 or under must be wearing the PFD unless the boat is docked.

There are no other items that are required to be on board but, a compass, radio, paddles and a flashlight are recommend to have because they are very helpful if an emergency should ever happen.
