Michael Knudsen, a 27-year-old crew member of an area drag racing team, is still in critical condition after being burned in a fire at the Pennsylvania Maple Grove Raceway. He suffered first- and second-degree burns on his hands, legs, and face during the horrible accident. A propane gas tank caught fire near the track entry gate during preparations for the race.
The clutch technician was airlifted to the burn center at Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown. There was a second individual, a worker from the AmeriGas propane tank company, who also suffered burns. Though it is know that he was rushed to Reading Hospital, the details about his current state and medical condition is still unknown.
The accident occurred when the two men were attempting to move the tanks. The tanks interfered with workspace. A distraction caused the men to drop the equipment, allowing two of the three tanks to leak.
